Coros: Saccargia, the necropolis, the thermal baths and other pearls
The Unione dei Comuni (Union of Municipalities), an entity that encompasses twelve towns that act as a connection between the sea and the Logudoro valleys, initiate a complex territorial marketing project and presents its new portal: www.unionecoros.it/perledelcoros. A virtual showcase of the treasures of Coros, narrated through photographs, emotional videos and texts in Italian and English. With a simple smartphone, anyone will be able to admire attractions of unique beauty, archaeological monuments, religious architecture, tangible and intangible goods, georeferenced, largely usable and which can be visited. In a next step, as already envisaged in the marketing plan that the Union has developed in recent months, the attractions could be managed by presenting the visitor with an integrated offer based on tourist demand. "Our territory has a first-rate archaeological, architectural and natural heritage" explains the president of the Union, Carlo Sotgiu, "which is why for some years now we have activated the function of territorial promotion and embarked on a path aimed at enhancing our villages and their attractors: tangible and intangible goods of great charm around which to develop a tourist offer that now focuses on knowledge and direct experience of tradition and natural immersion". The Coros territory begins from Olmedo, just ten kilometres away from Alghero, embracing the neighbouring towns of Ittiri, Uri, Usini, Putifigari, moving inland to Ossi, Tissi, Cargeghe, Muros, Florinas, Codrongianos until it reaches Ploaghe, a hinge town with Anglona. Twelve towns, more than 36 thousand inhabitants, covering a territory of more than 400 square kilometers which is rich in history and archaeology, historical monuments and natural architecture designed by time and of majestic beauty. From the megalithic complex of Monte Baranta, to follow the order of the villages mentioned, to the Necropolis of Musellos, the lake of Cuga, the church of San Giorgio di Oleastreto and the domus of S'incantu. Then moving towards the interior we have the domus of Mesu 'e Montes, the hypoego of Sas Puntas, the scenic railway of Giorrè, the Roman road of San Leonardo, the hypogeic tomb of Campu Lontanu, the unmistakable Romanesque basilica of Saccargia and a few kilometres away, still Romanesque, the fascinating church of San Michele. Here is some data to photograph the territory taken from Sired data "Regional Tourism Observatory": as of 2021, the territory has 82 non-hotel accommodation facilities and 485 beds. There is a strong representation of agri-tourism facilities and an adequate response from transport services, in some cases tour operators, car rental with drivers etc. Foreign tourist flows is showing a growth in Dutch tourism, and confirm the strong presence of French and Germans.
